First up is this fave based on a Stephen King novella, which underperformed on its first release but was still nominated for Best Picture and is now one of the most beloved movies of all time. In 1947, Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) is convicted and sentenced to Shawshank State Prison for the murder of his adulterous wife--a murder he swears he didn't commit. He befriends fellow lifer Red (Morgan Freeman) and endures the harsh reality of prison life with the only tool he has...hope. Andy's financial skills make him useful to corrupt Warden Norton (Bob Gunton)...but when proof of Andy's innocence arises, Norton will stop at nothing to keep Andy inside and his own secrets safe. Will Andy be able to hold onto the hope that's kept him going for all these years...hope that may get him beyond Shawshank's walls and deliver justice to his oppressors?
