Lunch and a Movie: The Phantom of the Opera (1925)

Lunch and a Movie: The Phantom of the Opera (1925) In-Person

Bring your lunch (beverages provided) to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Lon Chaney's classic version of The Phantom of the Opera by enjoying three different takes on the story! First up is this classic silent film, which is one of the most faithful versions of Gaston Leroux’s novel--and showcased the talent of Lon Chaney, Man of a Thousand Faces. Christine Daae (Mary Philbin) is making a name for herself at the Paris Opera, but the mysterious Phantom, madly in love with her, uses blackmail, sabotage, and outright murder to assure her success. When he brings Christine to his underground lair, she finds out his name--Erik--and rips off his mask, revealing his hideously deformed face. Now, with her suitor Raoul de Chagny (Norman Kerry) promising to help her, Erik’s obsession erupts into an ever-more-murderous rage...and hundreds of lives may be at stake... No signups required.
