At first her life with her new charges is harmonious, but soon they being acting strangely. Miss Giddens learns of the history of her predecessor, who committed suicide after a love affair with another servant—a depraved man who may have influenced the children before his own death. Soon, strange apparitions convince Miss Giddens that the pair are still trying to influence and control the children even beyond the grave...but is it a real haunting, or only the imaginings of an overwrought young woman?
