This classic spooker (officially directed by Tobe Hooper, but unofficially by Steven Spielberg) celebrates its fortieth anniversary this year. This time, it's not that spooky old mansion on the hill that's haunted, but an ordinary suburban California home...as the Freeling family finds out when strange figures emerge from the television one night and furniture starts moving around. It all comes to a head a few nights later when the Freelings' young daughter Carol Anne (Heather O'Rourke) is abducted into the spirit world. Now, the Freelings must seek the help of psychic investigators to find and rescue their little girl...but there may be far more at work here than simple poltergeist activity.
